Volunteer with us

Maybe you want to give back to us after receiving support? Maybe you’re looking for something productive you can do with a young baby or toddler at home? We have lots of opportunities for you to volunteer with us either in person with new families, or behind the scenes.

Hosts in our face to face groups

Our volunteer hosts are a crucial part of our service for local families. They welcome families as they walk through the door, offer hot drinks and cake, and fill in any necessary paperwork to ensure they are seen by the right person.

We ask our volunteers to dedicate at least one morning a month to Baby Umbrella, either at Tunbridge Wells on a Monday morning, Tonbridge on a Tuesday morning, or Otford on a Friday morning.

All our face to face volunteers must complete onboarding, safeguarding training and DBS checks before starting.

Breastfeeding Peer Supporters

Volunteer Breastfeeding Peer Supporters are mums who have breastfed their own babies and received around 12 weeks of training to enable them to support families with more straightforward breastfeeding questions. Peer Supporters are there to listen, empathise with and support, as well as providing up to date information on breastfeeding and related topics alongside our specialist practitioners.

We run our Breastfeeding Peer Supporter training around every 12-18 months and we also accept those who have trained with other breastfeeding organisations.

Please get in touch to be added to our contact list for future Breastfeeding Peer Supporter Training.

Fundraising and events

Would you like to help us organise a fundraising event? Maybe you have experience in events management? Or maybe you’re a super organised person and you’re looking for a fun project that will make a difference?

We run fundraising events throughout the year, from raffles to coffee mornings, creative events and sales and our volunteers are a key part of this! Maybe you have your own ideas?

Behind the scenes

We’re always looking for self starters to help us with various jobs behind the scenes. It could be social media, project management, copywriting, grant applications and lots more!

Let us know if you have any particular skills and what time you have to donate.

Work experience and shadowing

Unfortunately we are not able to offer work experience or shadowing opportunities at this time but we do have ambitions to build a shadowing program to increase skills and experience in breastfeeding support among allied professionals in West Kent.

Please get in touch if you would like us to keep you updated on this.
