Our Peer Supporters
Baby Umbrella Peer Supporters are trained to support parents with common breastfeeding challenges and to offer support and evidence-based information on all aspects of feeding, adjusting to parenthood, infant sleep and supporting mental wellbeing.
Our Peer Supporters start as volunteer hosts and complete 12 modules of training, plus observations and assessment of skills. They must complete all modules and submit satisfactory submissions of reflections, observations and assessments throughout the course to obtain registration as a qualified Peer Supporter and to work alongside parents in our groups.
Peer Supporter Training
The course runs on a hybrid basis with some face-to-face and some online learning. Face-to-face sessions take place on a rolling basis at our clinic locations in either Otford, Tonbridge or Tunbridge Wells. Our Peer Supporters receive access to regular supervision and enrichment training once they are qualified.
Modules on the course are as follows:
• Beginnings & Reflection
• What is a Peer Supporter
• Communication & Listening Skills
• Introduction to Reflective Practice
• How does Breastfeeding work
• Bottle feeding & combining feeding methods
